The Extended Preschool Program for four year-olds was a new program offered to our four year old A.M. students for the first time in 2009 -10 in response to an increase in requests. It begins at 8:15 and ends at 3:15 on the extended days. This allows for one drop off and pick up schedule for families with siblings in our kindergarten through eighth grade program. Students bring a lunch from home and have a rest time. This full day program affords students the opportunity to go to our art program, our science lab and engage in more extensive gross motor and themed learning activities.
2010-11 Registration begins Feb. 8th. For information on how to apply, visit our preschool registration page. The priority for consideration for acceptance to St. Timothy School is as follows:
1. Children presently attending the school
2. Siblings of children presently attending the school
3. Registered members of St. Timothy Parish regularly using contribution envelopes
4. Families moving into and registering in St. Timothy Parish
5. Families registered in parishes without a Catholic School
6. Non-Catholic families, if space available.

Inclement Weather Policy:
In case of inclement weather (heat, ice, snow) Saint Timothy follows Fairfax County’s announcements of “NO SCHOOL , “DELAYED OPENING”, or “EARLY CLOSING”. Notification is available online or via email at: Fairfax County School Closings Announcements . If there is a two-hour delayed opening, the morning session will have school from 10:15 - 12:15 and the afternoon session will have school from 1:15 - 3:15.If there is a two-hour delayed opening on a Monday and Fairfax County extends the school day to a full day, the morning session will have school from 10:15 - 12:15 and the afternoon session will have school from 1:15 - 3:15.
Special Circumstances: On the rare occasion when we are scheduled for a 12:00 dismissal and there is cause for an alteration in schedule, the following procedure applies: if Fairfax County announces a one hour delayed opening, the classes scheduled to attend will have school from 9:15 am to 12:00; if Fairfax County announces a two hour delayed opening we will not have school. If Fairfax County schools are having a scheduled holiday, and we are not, please check our web site and WMAL AM 630 radio station for instructions on delayed opening, closing and early closing. If you are unable to obtain accurate information, please find a friend, etc. who will be able to contact you. We cannot contact individual parents.
Carpool Policies:
Cars may not park in front of the school building during school hours. For the safety of all the students, drivers should be free of distraction including the use of cell phone devices during the carpool process.
AM Preschool and Extended Day Drop-Off Instructions
Monday - Friday 8:15
Walkers: Walkers should not cross in front of the carpool line. There is a designated cross walk in front of the school building which is manned by parent volunteers and staff. Walkers should wait until all cars have come to a stop and they are directed to cross.
Car Riders: Preschool students attending the AM program will be dropped off in the carpool line with the rest of the school beginning at 7:55 am. No supervision is available before that time. Teachers, parent volunteers and safety patrols will assist your student in exiting the the car and walking into the building to find the classroom. Laminated bunnies and salboats will be provided for car windows to assist the volunteers in recognizing a car with a preschool student. Parents should not exit their cars to assist.
All traffic enters on the right side of the church into the furthest bay. You will be directed by our parent volunteers to follow the flow of traffic (diagram available in handbook) to form a singled line in front of the school. When vehicles have stopped, students will exit the vehicles ON THE RIGHT SIDE and come directly into the building. Parent volunteers will indicate when it is safe to continue to exit via the second bay on the left side of the church and continue onto Poplar Tree Road.
AM Preschool Pick-Up Instructions:
Monday 10:45 - Tuesday through Friday 11:15
Cars must be in a single file line as they drive in front of the school for pick-up. As cars come to a stop, the engines must be turned off and parents/drivers must exit their car to pick up their child at the front of the building. Please be sure to close your car door behind you and hold your child's hand as you walk out into the street into the street to get back in your car.
As there is minimal time between the preschool sessions we ask that you be prompt and expedient as you pick up your child. If there is a need to come into the school building, we ask that you park your car in the church parking lot rather than go through the car pool line. We do expect all students to be well behaved and respectful while at school, including during the carpool procedures.
PM Preschool
Drop-Off Instructions:
Monday 11:30/Tuesday through Friday 12:15
Cars must be in a single file line as they drive in front of the school for drop-off. As cars come to a stop, the engines must be turned off and parents/drivers should walk their child to the front door of the school. Parents are not to be entering into the building for drop-off purposes. If there is a need to come into the building then we ask that you park your car in the church parking lot rather than go through the car pool line. Please be sure to close your car door behind you and hold your child's hand as you walk them up to the front door.
PM Preschool and Extended Day Pick-Up Instructions:
Monday through Friday 3:15
Preschool students attending preschool in the PM or participating in our Extended Day Preschool program are dismissed with the rest of the school in the carpool line. Preschool students will be standing in front of the school with members of the preschool staff, watching for their carpool to arrive.
Before dismissal, cars should begin to line up in two lines in the far right bay adjacent to the bus barn. Buses will be parked in front of the school. When the buses have been loaded and dismissed, teachers will direct cars to move to the front of the school, maintaining the double line. Drivers must put their cars in park and turn off their engines. After the whistle has blown, students whose cars have pulled in front of the school should enter their carpools. When the first group of cars has been filled, staff members will ensure that the lane is clear of children and direct the lines of car to proceed to the two farthest bays of the parking lot. If your student was not available for pickup, you must exit with the rest of the cars and circle back to the end of the line. The next group of cars will be moved to the loading area and the procedure will be repeated. Late pickup-ups must enter the building to sign out their students. A diagram of this process is available in the handbook.
